How to turn Super Mario Party into a drinking game

Want to play a fun drinking game with the new Super Mario Party? Here’s how!

It has been about three years since the last Mario Party graced the shores of Nintendo Land. The new release of Super Mario Party has tweaked and refined an effective formula in order to offer one of the best party games available. If you want to get together with a bunch of friends and play an awesome game together, then Super Mario Party is a great addition to any Nintendo Switch library.

The thing is that if you and your friends are all adults over the drinking age in your region, Super Mario Party can be more than just a great party game. It can also be a really fun drinking game. It seems as if the major export of just about any college is finding ways to turn any activity into a drinking game. I know more than a handful of folks who spent some serious time in college playing various iterations of Mario Party as a drinking game.

It should go without saying but I am going to put it out there anyway. Please drinking responsibly, never drink and drive, and don’t use drinking as an excuse to be a jerk to anyone… Ever.

Here are the rules we ran at our Mario Party Party. We had a great time and everyone ended up nicely toasted.

The rules!

  • At the end of every mini-game, everyone but the winner takes a drink.
  • Whenever someone gets a star, everyone else takes two drinks.
  • If you have the opportunity to buy a star but you can’t afford it, you take a drink.
  • Whenever you land on a bad luck space, you have to take a drink.
  • Should you ever lose a star, you have to finish your drink.

If you have more guests than you can handle, you can always have folks choose a player to team up with and they will have to drink any time the player does.

These rules are just a place to start. You can certainly tweak or expand them in any way you like for your specific event.
